Dr Farag is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in Gosford on the Central Coast.

Dr Farag provided a full range of obstetric care to women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. His practice offers an innovative model of private Obstetric care both for routine and high risk pregnancies.

Dr Farag aims to provide first class service to his customers and a flexible approach to family centred care. He endeavours to support childbirth choices and personalise birthing experiences as much as possible.

He works in conjunction with couples to facilitate a successful and happy birth process. Natural births are supported including vaginal twin births, and external cephalic version for breech presentations at term.

Dr Farag also performs operative obstetrics including instrumental deliveries and caesarean sections. Dr Farag sees his role as not only helping you to achieve your aims, but also to ensure that you and your baby are delivered in the safest possible way. Pregnancy is associated with many changes to your body and lifestyle and you will be inundated with information.

There are many available sources of information including books and pamphlets. Antenatal classes and Calm Birth classes are encouraged. They will help to orientate you to the hospital and the maternity unit and area valuable way to help you and your partner prepare for the birth of your baby and for parenthood.

If you have any questions it is often helpful to write them down and discuss them at your first visit. Partners and family members are more than welcome to accompany you to these visits.

Dr Farag’s priority is to attend deliveries. Because of this, it is strongly recommended that you call the office prior to your appointment to check on timing.

The first visit is as early as 6 weeks gestation and includes taking a medical history, dating ultrasound and examination. Please bring a letter of referral from your GP plus any test results you may have. Consultations thereafter are four weekly until twenty eight weeks, then fortnightly until thirty six weeks and then weekly until birth.

In addition, some mothers choose to have a screening test for Down Syndrome, a chromosomal disorder that sometimes occurs. Should you choose to have this test, an ultrasound called a Nuchal Translucency Scan is recommended at about 12 weeks. This test clarifies the risk of Down Syndrome. If you are found to be a high risk, you may choose to have further diagnostic investigations such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS) or amniocentesis. Some women choose to go straight to a diagnostic investigation. Dr Farag is happy to discuss this option with you.

If an urgent appointment is required at anytime, please contact the rooms for and an appointment will be made for you as soon as possible.
